One way to give your home an incredible facelift without major renovation is to replace the siding. If you currently have wood siding, this can be a huge step towards a low-maintenance lifestyle, eliminating the ongoing need to paint or stain wood siding. If you have older vinyl siding, you can give your house a whole new look by using some of the new “faux impression” siding.
Siding types
Fiber cement siding This water resistant and fire resistant option can come in board or shingle-look, is difficult to distinguish from real wood, and yet won’t be eaten by animals or insects. Its color is adhered in the factory and is very durable.
Vinyl impression siding
These impressions incorporate random patterns and realistic woodgrain to replicate wood shingles in a strip of vinyl siding. They come in a variety of shapes, widths and lengths ranging from traditional clapboard to shingles to shake to half-round. Their color is impregnated into the vinyl itself, so vinyl siding should never require painting or staining.
Stone veneer
This resin fiberglass product comes as panels with almost endless design and color choices, from fieldstone to brick to stacked stone wall. It is one of the highest return-on investment home improvements in today’s market.
Color coordination
These new siding options deliver a wide range of rich color to match every architectural style of home. Your combinations with doors and other accents can be as broad as your imagination, and can make your home a true expression of your personal style. Color can even change the perception of your home’s size; light coordinating colors make a smaller home appear larger, while dark contrasting colors can make a larger home appear smaller. Smaller homes look better with fewer colors, while more ornate homes with gables and bump-outs can even benefit from using a main color plus accent colors and even multiple patterns of siding. The Belanger Built team has built and renovated many, many homes and we can help your family by presenting you many options for optimizing your color scheme.
Installation options
“Layover” is when the siding product is installed right over the existing exterior of the home. This is a faster, more economical process. The other option is a total strip of the existing exterior, down to the wood substrate. A water/vapor barrier is then installed, and potentially additional insulation. Then the new siding is installed. At Belanger Built, our experts can guide you through considerations to make this decision. Give us a call to schedule a consultation.
